Ella Wilmarth Barton and May Wilmarth correspondence, 1875-1886.

Collection (03-253) comprises 142 letters between the sisters and to each of them from various friends, family members, and patrons. The letters pertain to the lives, friendships, work, and travels of these women. Of note are correspondence regarding May's artistic education at the Art Institute of Chicago and her bookmaking work, and a file of letters to Ella from her future husband, written during their courtship. Also included are two pieces of related print ephemera. Acquired as part of the Sallie Bingham Center for Women's History and Culture.
